Egyptological computing

This is a list of Egyptological computing developments, arranged chronologically, the background color alternating with each year. Suggestions for inclusion are welcome (email to computing_list @hieroglyphs.net but without the space before @). Categories currently of interest (although all are not yet necessarily represented here) include

  • writing software
  • educational software
  • dictionary data/software
  • notation software
  • fonts
  • documents
  • communications
  • site data/software

Apart from being interesting in its own right, this list, we hope, will help folks easily be able to see what has been done and what has not yet been done and chose their projects accordingly.

Why do some programs have multiple listings? We've chosen to separately list new versions when there have been significant changes. Examples would be when a program is rewritten to run in a different operating system (WinGlyph going from DOS to Win3.1 to Win95+), or to produce radically different output (Hierowriter output going from pure HTML to GIFs to PNG/JPEGs).

What is the significance of the date? The date we're interested in is not the date the project was developed, but the date the project was made available to the public. Corrections in this, in particular, are most welcome.

That's what I've been looking for! How do I pay you? You don't. We list the price simply as a point of information. It may, in fact, even be wrong. Follow the link to the item's page and continue your search for buying information from there.

How can I suggest items for you to add? Send us an email at computing_list @hieroglyphs.net but without the space before @. We don't guarantee that everything suggested will be included, but since we're looking to make this fairly comprehensive, most suggestions probably will be added.
